About Me

Hi I’m Lily and welcome to Lil Baby Sleep.

I’m a mom of two babies - 22 months apart - and sleep saved my life (and sanity)!

I’m a Toronto-based paediatric sleep consultant. I provide customized sleep solutions - that are family centred and evidence-based.

It was my own experience with sleep deprivation that led me to research and study sleep - it changed my perspective so profoundly that I created this business to help other families (like yours!) get the sleep they so desperately need.

It’s okay to get help, I promise in a few weeks from now, you will be glad you did.

Having gone through many sleepless nights with my first baby, and a very difficult first few months on my breastfeeding journey (which included many hospital visits and bouts of mastitis), I had a realization that the exhaustion of being a new mom had made all my new memories with my son a blur.

I remember crying. Crying a lot and nothing more.

I started to realize that the anxiety I had developed due to sleep deprivation, isolation and worry (about whether I was being a good mom) had to stop.

One day I decided to let my husband help take some night shifts and I went to bed. Of course I felt guilty of that I had “walked away” from my crying baby. But by taking time to rest, I realized I could be the best version of myself and I found ME again.

At the same time I was giving my husband the opportunity to bond with our son. I read up on some great sleep tips and began to implement them slowly.

Our bedtime routine soon became the best part of our day, our family time and there was no stress. In addition to this, we all slept. We all felt rested and I came out of the dark place. I began connecting with other moms and actually left my house for playdates!

I was finally able to enjoy motherhood; to remember my sons face as he looked up at me and gave me a toothless smile; be present as his cheerleader as he rolled for the first time; and awake to watch my husband become the best father.

I've come to realize the importance of sleep not only for myself but for my child's development and now I’m even guilty of measuring my own hours of sleep and going to bed at 8pm each night because I love the feeling of being rested. To be honest, I don't expect to always get enough sleep. I know and accept that life will not always make way for the ideal circumstances for sleep; parties, dinners, holidays, I enjoy those too! And not to mention sick nights, travel days and, well, life. We respect sleep but run on a flexible schedule that allows for cuddles on the couch, family visits and the odd late night kitchen dance parties (nope that’s just my husband and I after we put the kids to bed!)

The science of sleep is a fascinating subject, especially when it comes to a baby's sleep. I strongly feel we should embrace sleep, proactively prepare for it, and make it part of our parenting journey. I feel so passionately about this that I decided to leave my corporate career and study to become a sleep consultant. The rest, as they say, is history.

There is an assumption made that new mothers don't sleep. In most cases that is true. However, I was taken aback by the idea that being sleep deprived was a precursor to parenthood. I doesn’t have to be.

My mission is to educate parents on how establishing healthy sleep habits can create a home environment where rest can take place and parental connection and bonding can still be allowed to flourish.

No matter what your parenting style is, you need support to get the rest you need as a parent, in order to give the best of yourself to your baby.

It's not selfish, it's selfless.

If both you and baby are not well rested you are unable to remember and truly experience the beautiful moments of being a new parent.

When not helping families get the rest they need, you’ll find me enjoying long family walks with my husband and two kids. I also like to get up SUPER early and work out before starting each day (fun fact: I’m in bed by 8pm!).

If this resonates with you and you’d like to discuss your unique needs and how I can help, I’d love to chat.
